Recently, some voices—like certain OB/GYNs—have claimed that higher testosterone levels in women are inherently dangerous, linking them to serious health risks. Unfortunately, much of this advice is based on outdated or misinterpreted information. It’s time to clarify the facts: there are no credible studies showing that testosterone levels in the 200–300 ng/dL range are unsafe for women.

What Does the Science Say?

Decades of research support the safety and efficacy of testosterone therapy for women.

Key studies include:

  • The EACH Trial (2016): A landmark placebo-controlled study published in The New England Journal of Medicine after evaluating testosterone therapy in late postmenopausal women. The study found no increased risk of cardiovascular events, breast cancer, or other adverse health outcomes when testosterone was used in recommended doses, with levels often reaching into the high hundreds (ng/dL). Reference: Miller KK, et al. (2016). Effects of transdermal testosterone on energy, sexual function, mood, and cognition in women. The NEJM.

  • The Women’s Health Initiative (2002): Demonstrated that properly dosed hormone therapies, including testosterone, do not inherently increase risks of cardiovascular disease or cancer when patient monitoring is part of the protocol.

  • Recent Clinical Reviews: Summarize that testosterone levels in the 200–300 ng/dL range, when personalized and overseen by qualified practitioners, do not pose health risks and often improve quality of life.

Crucially, there are NO peer-reviewed studies showing that testosterone levels in the 200–300 ng/dL range are dangerous for women.

Why the Fear of “High” Testosterone Is Not Backed by Evidence

Claims that "high" testosterone causes disease are often based on misinterpretations or outdated data. These fears tend to apply only to extremely high, unmonitored doses—not the safe, personalized levels achievable through professional hormone management.

Biological context: Many women function perfectly well and thrive with testosterone levels in the 200–300 ng/dL range—levels shown to improve energy, motivation, muscle strength, and libido—without increasing health risks when treatment is individualized.

Responsible Testosterone Therapy: Monitoring and Personalization

  • Regular lab testing guarantees levels stay in a safe, therapeutic window.

  • Customized treatment plans ensure doses match each woman's unique needs.

  • Close monitoring allows clinicians to adjust therapy, minimizing any concerns about risks.

Final Words: Trust the Evidence, Not Fearmongering

There’s no credible evidence supporting the idea that healthy, personalized testosterone levels in the 200–300 ng/dL range are dangerous. On the contrary, scientific studies show that when managed responsibly, testosterone therapy can significantly enhance women’s health, vitality, and quality of life.
